Dr. George P. Chambers, M.D., is living his dream.  His dream was to open Chambers & Associates OBGYN and Gynecological Surgery, PLLC.

“After six years of working for other private practices,” Dr. Chambers explained. “I decided to open a practice, basically to serve the women of southern Nevada.”

Chambers & Associates takes care of a wide variety of patients, from insured to uninsured, average patient to celebrity.

“I have a particular soft spot in my heart for uninsured patients,” added Dr. Chambers.

Six months after relocating to Las Vegas, Dr. Chambers was employed by Nevada Health Centers, Inc.  Through this organization he joined the National Health Service Corp to provide obstetrics and gynecologic care in North Las Vegas which is an underserved area according to Dr. Chambers.

“The organization did a phenomenal job, still serving that area,” Dr. Chambers noted. “When I decided to leave and go back into private practice, I decided to give those patients a priority in my office.”

The patients he was referring to needed a no insurance OB / GYN.

“Uninsured patients are not who you might think of today. Five years ago you could almost picture the uninsured woman,” he continued. “Today, because of the recession we are recovering from, the uninsured patient could be a former casino exec who got laid off, an accountant, people you never thought would find themselves in this situation.”

This can cause an issue with uninsured women, as they will often avoid preventative and pre-natal care, thinking that it would costs tens of thousands of dollars.

“And that is not the case,” Dr. Chambers explained.

To help out the uninsured patient, Chambers & Associates offers discounts for patients paying in cash.

Helping out uninsured patients is but one example of the service offered at Chambers & Associates.  Another is spending time with the patients.

According to Dr. Chambers, he understands the importance of not just hearing, but also listening, to his patients.  So, he will not rush their visits.

“This is not an assembly line of care,” he elaborated. “I will not see 50 to 90 patients a day.  You cannot provide competent care to women when you are seeing that many.”

“This is not Detroit cranking out cars on an assembly line.”

“All patients are given the same attention, the same one-on-one care,” Dr. Chambers continued. “I do not shortcut on patient’s time to move on to the next.  I will not rush them.”

Dr. Chambers is originally from Jamaica, which has universal health care.

When Dr. Chambers was ten years old, he was taken to one of the public hospitals for treatment.  He was treated as a number, Dr. Chambers recalled.  He was also misdiagnosed, which caused him to go to a different public hospital the next day.

While the car accident profoundly affected Dr. Chambers, he noted that he knew from an early age what he wanted to do with his life.  Before medical school, he knew he wanted to be an OB / GYN.

“I did not choose OB / GYN, it chose me,” he explained.

Dr. Chambers refers to his work as a calling, not a career.  This calling led him through school and eventually to Southern Nevada to become an OB / GYN in Las Vegas.

He has received accolades throughout his career. He was a Frederick Douglass scholar all four years he attended American University, and earned the prestigious Distinguished Frederick Douglass Scholar Award in his senior year.

The awards kept coming, including being inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, which features the top ten percent of graduating physicians from medical schools and residency programs in the United States.

Since moving to Las Vegas, he has been listed in 2006, 2007 and 2011 as one of the top doctors in Las Vegas by Las Vegas Life magazine.

While he has received many awards throughout his career, his favorite is the Patient Choice Award, which he received in 2008, 2009 and 2010.

This award means the most to Dr. Chambers as it is awarded by patients who recognize the dedication given to them.
