The Empowerment Column (50): “Know Thyself”

If we could take all of the sacred teachings and wisdom of the ages and summarize it all into 2 simple words, they would be “Know Thyself.” Always be aware or conscious of this extremely serious message to Know Thy-Self.  From the beginning, we were told that we can never truly love anyone else until we first learn to love ourselves.  Therefore, we can never know or understand others until we learn, know and understand ourselves.

To know thyself means that you must first understand that you are made in the image and likeness of something beyond magnificent.  This something is what sees to it that everything that happens in Life is in perfect accordance with Divine Will.  You are here in service to fulfill your Divine assignment for the unfolding of your soul to become spiritually awake.

Gaining the knowledge

In Life, there are 2 ways in which we gain knowledge.  When both ways are combined we get the full value, complete value, whole or Holistic value of the knowledge.

The 2 ways that we gain knowledge are through

1. Intellectual Understanding
2. Direct Experience

To have one without the other makes the knowledge incomplete and unfulfilling.  For example we can go to class every day and listen to the teacher speak to us about sex.  We can read every book on the subject of sex and even pass all of the written exams concerning sex to receive a Ph.D. in sex education but without the direct experience of sex, we still don’t know what sex really is, at least not completely.  It is on this exact point where the churches fall short on what they teach.  For example, everyone shows up on Sunday to listen to a person give their interpretation of what it says in the book of Scripture.  Week after week there is a growing intellectual understanding of the Divine but once again, without the direct experience of the Divine that is being intellectualized about, we still remain unfulfilled in having the full and Holistic value of Divine knowledge and understanding.  This type of learning process is known as intellectualizing the Spirit instead of Spiritualizing the intellect.
