So Much to Say, So Little Paper

By Aaron Phillips

So much has gone on over the last few weeks that I think tonight will be a rapid fire approach for all I have on my mind.

The passing of Andy Rooney:  “Have you ever wondered…” was how many of his commentaries started off that way.  He made us think.  He was 92 when he passed away.  “Have you ever wondered if he knew he was close to dying when he retired from 60 MINUTES barely a month before?”

The passing of “Smokin’ Joe Frazier”: When Michael Jackson died, we all forgot that Farrah Fawcet died 5 hours earlier in the day and her story was pushed to the back of the news stories.  Too bad Joe Frazier passed the same time as the horrific story at Penn State broke, as his passing seemed to also get pushed to the back of the news stories.  He was only 67 when he died after a short battle with liver cancer.  But he was one of the best TRUE heavy weight boxers ever.  He had three bouts with Ali including the culmination at “The Thrilla in Manila.”  Joe had a great personally and was loved by all. He will be sorely missed.

When will the “Occupy (insert any city here)” come to a close? It appears to me that their message has gotten out.  One fear I had is coming true. That being the peaceful sit-ins will eventually start turning violent.  Just ask the folks in Oakland!  Issues have been happening here at the Occupy Las Vegas.  Theft primarily but it could escalate not to mention becoming a tourist turnoff.  After awhile, they start stinking like day old fish!

Snow in October? That’s right. It was a white Halloween for most people on the East Coast. Some 2 million people lost power and it took many 3-5 days before their power was restored.  I think the first tsunami is to blame for this weird weather.  I think we should Occupy The Pacific Ocean until it stops!

Kim Kardashian wedding ended after only 70 some odd days. Quite frankly I am surprised it lasted that long.  Brittany Spears should be smiling as she still holds the record for the shortest wedding. What do you supposed happened to the $2M engagement ring?  It cost $10M for the wedding itself? How do people get famous for doing nothing? I don’t get it.

Where do we draw the line between criminal responsibility and moral responsibility? The last time I checked the Constitution of The United States was based on laws not what one person thought the other should do because of morals.  After all everybody has different morals.  Just ask the people in jail and those that are not in jail.  Nothing was more obvious this week than the news from Penn State University and the sex scandal came out.  The target of this being the long time head football coach, Joe Paterno.  I’m not going bore you with all of his accomplishments as head coach of the Nittany Lions for 46 years.  Criminally, Paterno has done nothing wrong.  His long time assistant coach Jerry Sandusky is being accused of over 40 counts of sexual abuse with minors.  I could go on and on about whether Joe did what he was supposed to do as well as the administration.  I will admit that I am a Penn State Alumni ’86.  If you are interested in hearing the rest of my opinion, you can go to the following link, http://vegaskool.com/2011/11/10/vegas-unwrapped-with-dayna-roselli-11092011-podcast/, and listen to last week’s Vegas Unwrapped Show for my comments on this topic.

With all that has been going on, I too can go on and on and on……

Until next time!
