Although Scott Pritchard is an acclaimed award-winning public speaker and a famous stand-up comedian, his work ethic, integrity and drive are not laughing matters.
The ‘Entertainment Capital of the World’ is over-saturated with resident and visiting comedians whom draw few laughs, and event producers whom struggle to fill seats. Las Vegas suffers from a worsening recession, a record high unemployment rate and a decline in tourism.
Despite all odds being stacked against him and competing against casinos with larger marketing budgets, Mr. Pritchard regrouped and tried his gamble again. Previously Scott hosted a comedy show at Four Queens Resort & Casino, and opened for Palace Station Casino’s comedy headliner Louie Anderson, and country singer Lorrie Morgan.
Currently Scott produces two shows running concurrently including “L.A. Comedy Club” at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino, and “Laugh & Stay Motivated” at Alexis Park Resort. “Laugh & Stay Motivated” is an hour and fifteen minute show based on inspiration, motivation, and healing. “Laugh & Stay Motivated” sold out on opening night which was January 21, 2012.
Scott recently sat down with Endeavor Media Group to talk about his show, “L.A. Comedy Club,” that has been running since August 2011 and has been sold out for the last eight consecutive Saturdays.
“There Is Something For Everyone At The L.A. Comedy Club. Funny Is Funny!” remarked Scott Pritchard.

Describe your first experience as a comedian?
I was at a book camp and the speaker said ‘Speakers who are funny make more money.’ This was years ago and that given night I went to my first open mic and I bombed with a capital B. I went with a buddy of mine; his dream was to be a stand-up comic. We both bombed. The only difference was I kept coming back getting kicked in the teeth until I actually started getting some laughs and then I started to develop from that.
What is your role in the show?
It’s never about me. It’s about the headliner. It’s about the feature. It’s about the club. It’s about the crowd. My goal and objective is to warm up the crowd and to promote the show and the other comics. I want to get everyone in a feel good state of mind.
Why do you host “L.A. Comedy Club” at Cabo Wabo Cantina inside Planet Hollywood Casino Resort?
It is one of the best showrooms in Las Vegas because it has magnificent views that overlook the strip and you can check out the water show at Bellagio. It’s great because of the food and festive atmosphere. Not only is Cabo Wabo a hot spot for the single guys but lots of ladies go there too. People hang out after the comedy show because it turns into a lounge and they drink and socialize and enjoy the sights and sounds. We love the venue.
Who are some comedians that did stand-up at “L.A. Comedy Club?”
Las Vegas’ Brandon “Gooch” Hahn, Alli Breen, Paul Ogata, Shang, Pedro Hernandez and Todd Paul just to name a few.
What advice can you give to aspiring comedians?
Treat everyone with dignity and respect. You never know, the person serving you drinks at the bar could be the owner. So again, be polite. Use common sense and be nice to everybody. Get going and keep going.
Show up and build rapport with the bookers. The best way to get booked in the comedy business is through referrals because bookers and managers are inundated with videos, links, and tapes. Get validated through a headliner. Then it is about stage time.
Take action and make it happen. Embrace failure. It’s okay to get knocked down but like a basketball you gotta find a way to bounce back. We all get knocked down. Have a vision. Have a dream. Believe it. Feel it. Make it happen.
What does the future hold for Scott Pritchard?
I want to do something that no one else is doing and that is to inspire. I am a very good story teller and I tap into sharing my life experiences in a very humorous and inspiration way that is based on where I’ve been, what I’ve done, and what I’ve learned. I am going to ‘keep on keeping on’ as far as doing the stand-up comedy and also as far as having my own show.
I want to continue to pursue to the college and corporate markets in terms of professional speaking because the more people that I reach the more people that I can help. Ultimately it is about having people laugh in a unique way and impacting and helping as many people as possible.
