Being Vegan – This Is War

The term “war” is one that is certainly bantered around quite a bit.  This type of hostile engagement is something that mankind has taken to since it seems the beginning of human civilization.  Now that does not in any way justify it and make it right.  It too often is humans who are prideful and nationalistically blind, unwilling to negotiate and find a peaceful solution, and instead try and exert their will over another.  While I am not a historian, I know enough to say that most wars could have been avoided and should have been.  The amount of human casualty throughout history as a result of wars is staggering.  Frankly, what our “wars” have become today are not really about protecting our soil and safety, but instead they have been about establishing a presence in a foreign land to protect financial interests, and that is wrong.  That men, women and children have to die or be left crippled as a result of this reprehensible. If you don’t believe me, you can do the research…there is plenty of information out there to back this up.

That being said, I do believe there is a war of another kind that I do believe that we should fully engage in.  That is a war to protect the rights and health of every living creature on the planet. This is war that is going on right now without a military presence but is resulting in deaths every day for both humans and animals.  I believe that is not only right but necessary to fight peacefully with our hearts, minds and actions towards seeing this world become a kinder, safer and healthier place for all.  This is a war that we can be armed with the right kind of education of how things really are and how they should be instead of submitting to the propaganda that has been fed to us over the years.  We have been taught here in America to go to school and listen to our teachers and not get out of line and question very little.  The same is true for when we become adults.  We are to believe that the government and big business knows whats best for us. We are taught to be believe that if a study or scientist says it to be true, it is, even if that study was funded by the people who would benefit most by us believing it.

We have not only come to a point, but have actually been there for quite some time, where power and profit has become most important for those who try and control our lives.  Because of this, billions of animals are tortured and killed every year not because we need them to be but because it is profitable.  Even if it is at the expense of our health, and it is.  The doctors, scientists and studies who have nothing to gain by telling us so are ringing the bell that if we don’t change the way we eat and live as humans we will continue to be sick and die and kill our planet at the same time.  We have to first understand what is really happening and then begin to do something about it.  We are not taught in this country to think and live outside the box, but that kind of thinking and living will actually put us in box before our time.  It is time to wake up and fight for our lives and for the lives of our children and generations to come.  This goes for every living creature as well.

We are in a war right now over our food.  The people who say they know what is best for us have actually been engaged in doing what is best for them.  During the past two decades they have been genetically modifying our food without our knowledge or permission.  They have done this with the government’s blessing.  They say that there is no real proof that these things can be harmful to us in the short or long term.  It is funny how they can find the proof when it is something that challenges the status quo of the profit structure.  And yet the proof abounds and has caused over 50 countries around the world, including the European Union, to either ban GMO’s or make mandatory labeling the norm.  Yet we here in America have done neither.  There is a great deal of information available now about GMO’s that you can find.  If you want to watch some things there is video series now being shown on YouTube entitled “GMO Ticking Time-Bomb” by Gary Null.  Watch it and share it with as many people as you can. I am also looking forward to seeing a documentary entitled “Genetic Roulette.”

The fight has come upon the state level to do what the federal government has been unwilling to do, and that is to at least make labeling of GMO’s mandatory.  Give people a choice.  This is why the passing of Proposition 37 in California is so important because it will provide a gateway for other states to do the same.  Arm yourself with knowledge and pick up the fight wherever you are.  I believe by understanding what is in our food and what is happening as result to us and our families we will begin to choose to live differently in a way that will affect every living creature and this planet.  This is how we will win this war.  This is not a war about the shedding of blood but the preventing of it.  You want to change your world?  This is a great place to start…right on our plates.

  1. Stellar commentary by Paul Graham especially regarding the pablum being pumped out by the GMO proponents that there is no “proof” that GMO’s are harmful and hence we should go along with it. The planet and animals are being plundered and we are going along with it as we are dumbed down and complacent (for the most part). It is necessary to Go Vegan in order to remove the veil of ignorance. It is really true but unless you try it, it seems a fringe idea. Once you experience it you know it is for life and health of all beings and the planet too.

  2. Can we please not mix veganism up with this anti-GMO stuff. I’m a vegan and a molecular biologist working on plant science and completely support GMOs.

Here’s a report by the WHO if you’re interested in actually learning something rather than being manipulated by corporate (yes, organic farmers are a buisness interest) propangada:

Before anyone ‘calls out’ the WHO for being corporate shills, note that they regularly put out reports encouraging stricter tobacco regulations and an increased consumption of fruit and vegetables.
