“Angry Birds Star Wars” Brings the Force to Your Smartphone

Two entertainment behemoths merge to create one of the more interesting games for the smartphone.   “Angry Birds,” which earlier this year took on space, now takes on the stars, as in “Star Wars.”

The game play is the same as it was for the earlier versions, except the birds are now modeled after “Star Wars” beloved classic characters such as Luke Skywalker and Han Solo.  Also – the game takes us to “Star Wars” worlds that span “Stars Wars,” “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi.”

Each character brings something unique to the “Angry Birds” universe.  For instance, Luke Skywalker brings his lightsaber, Han Solo brings a blaster and Obi-Wan Kenobi brings the force.

The game does not make the player wait too long to be introduced to each of these characters.  In fact, R2D2 and C3PO make an early appearance in the first bonus round.  R2 comes equipped with the ability to shock while C3PO breaks up into smaller projectiles.

Other characters making the transition include Princess Leia, Chewbacca, Yoda and the Rebel Pilots. The Rebel Pilots can multiply as the blue birds did in the original “Angry Birds.”

The gameplay itself combines “Angry Birds” with “Angry Birds Space,” with some action taking place on the ground and some in space.

The pigs, or Pigtoopers which is more appropriate, have defensive capabilities on some screens, including blasters which fire in the direction of the launching birds.

Also on the dark side are Jawas, Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine.

The Millennium Falcon can be used in difficult levels to replace one of the birds and shoot at a large area.

This game, with the sounds and recognizable look of “Star Wars” transports the player to a galaxy far far away effectively.

Whether a player is a “Star Wars” fan or not, this is a fun game that does not take itself too seriously.
