InSPIRITations: Unconditional Love

Recently I have had two different situations where I was given a gift, only to find out there were conditions to these “gifts.”

I started thinking, “don’t we do the same thing to ourselves?”  We buy something for ourselves and either feel guilty, or feel we have to accomplish something before we deserve it, or feel we must give up something, We are even told now that if we buy something for ourselves, that we need to get rid of something.  We are told it is better to give than to receive. And, we are also told that in order to love others we need to love ourselves first. Don’t we give to the ones we love? Then why would it not be the same if we give to ourselves if we are to love ourselves?

Unconditional gift-giving starts by sharing a piece of yourself with not wanting anything at all in return. When we give  unconditionally  we give from the heart without expecting anything in return or that it must be earned.

The law of attraction, and the ability to be a good receiver is crucial to your ability to manifest in the world. The first person that you need to show unconditional love to first is yourself. Learn to love everything about you because you are unique and special. Once you fall in love with yourself, then the world opens up in abundance to your life. “The greatest gift that you can give to others is the gift of unconditional love and acceptance,” Brian Tracy.

Unconditional love is the ability to accept, respect and care for yourself and others without any conditions, limitations or reservations attached to that love. Unconditional love is the practice of giving of love to others without demanding that they perform behaviors that you desire. Unconditional love is positive energy that comes from the complete love that you have for yourself.  Genuine love for another person simply means the continual desire and the act of increasing the level of happiness in another person’s life. This is true for self love as well

A dear friend told me once that not only was I giving the contents of my cup away, I was giving the whole cup away. I had nothing left to give and nothing left to fill myself up with. So, this year, I have decided to honor myself by giving to myself and making time for myself to do what I enjoy, what feeds my soul. This is the greatest form of giving you can give yourself as it shows that you love, respect and value yourself. It gives you time to relax, refocus and recharge so that you are able to give to others.

If you had an extra 15 minutes, a half hour, an afternoon or an entire day, what would you do to make yourself feel rejuvenated, relaxed and happy? Write a list and keep it handy when you begin scheduling time into your calendar. It is important to nurture yourself and give the time and space you need to just be yourself and do things that you enjoy.

Create a daily ritual…Set aside time for yourself. Do what inspires and energizes you. Doing something for yourself even if it is for a short period of time can help center your mind and body and relieve stress.

Here are a few things you can do to give to yourself. And, do it unconditionally just because you are you, not because you earned it and do it without guilt, shame, obligation or expectations.

Put a post-it on your mirror that says, “You look beautiful!”

Buy fresh flowers

Take a walk

Take a hot aromatherapy bath

Write in a journal.

List the things that you’re grateful for.

List the things that you like about yourself.

Create something.

Try something new.

Get enough sleep.

Meditate.

Stretch

Take a deep breath

Light a candle or use a reed diffuser.

Use lotions & soaps with scents that you love.

Do something that’s only for you.

Start living now. Stop saving the good china for that special occasion. Stop withholding your love until that special person materializes. Everyday you are alive is a special occasion. Every minute, every breath, is a gift from God,” Mary Manin Morrissey.
