Amanda Corey is the new Xenergy Xtreme model at Xyience. Amanda won the 5th season of the CW’s ‘Beauty and the Geek’ reality show, plus a cash prize of $125,000. She’s also been featured in a five page pictorial in Playboy magazine. You also may have seen her in national ad campaigns for brands including 24 Hour Fitness and Hawaiian Tropic, and in magazines such as Glamour, Seventeen, Fight!, MMA Authority, and UFC. In addition to packing a punch with physical attraction, she holds a BA degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology from the University of Arizona and is conversational in American Sign Language.

Recently Amanda Corey talked to me about her endeavors as she prepared for a photo shoot.

Andre Haynes: How did you earn a living before venturing into the modeling industry?

Amanda Corey:
I actually never intended or pursued modeling. I honestly fell into it after being hired at Hooters during college in which I planned to continue on to get my masters and become a marriage counselor. Once I started at Hooters, I was published in their international calendar and other opportunities presented themselves such as Playboy, Beauty and the Geek, and currently my contract as the official spokes model of Xyience. I guess you can say I’ve been in this industry since college so I’ve been fortunate enough to have not had to do anything else for a living.

AH:
Name some sacrifices that you made to become successful.

Amanda Corey:
One major fork in the road that I reached was the decision to go and get my masters or take the opportunity that I had been offered to go on the reality show Beauty and the Geek. I figured that I could always go back to school so I thankfully chose the show. After that I never went on to get my masters and sometimes I wonder what would have happened if I had, however I am so thankful, fulfilled, and ecstatic on how my life turned out that I do not regret it in the least!

Another sacrifice was being away from family, and now my husband. Traveling all the time and being away from loved ones definitely takes a toll on your relationships! I’ve had my ups and downs with friends and significant others due to being away. However, each relationship that I have now, withstood and still continues to grow and strengthen despite my travels and time away. I have the best husband and most amazing friends in my life and I honestly couldn’t dream of having more supportive loved ones to surround me.

AH:
Did you receive criticism for believing in your dream, and if so how did you handle it?

Amanda Corey:
Absolutely! I was doubted by family and friends for not continuing my education. Of course, my family always supported me however concern and doubt of my decision was expressed. I just strongly felt that I had to take opportunities that arose and I always knew that if whatever I did didn’t work, I could always go back to school. I am thankful I took the road less traveled.

AH:
Describe a defining moment in your career.

Amanda Corey:
I actually have a few moments.

The first is when I got offered to be a contestant and participant on the reality game show Beauty and the Geek. At first I just thought “Wow, I’m really lucky to have the opportunity to even just be on the show,” and really didn’t expect to gain much besides the experience.

Then when I won the show…. What a turning point! I distinctly remember thinking once again “Wow, I’m so lucky” but again not realizing the importance or impact it would have on my life, until someone actually said “This is going to change your life”. It really hit me then that this was big and yet still, I had no idea the amount of possibilities it would open for me. I’m not just talking about job opportunities but other things like the people I’ve met and all the life changing events that came about as a result of winning.

Another moment was not so obvious to me but looking back it changed my life in a huge way…. My contract and opportunity with Xyience! I cannot express in words how being with Xyience has significantly and positively impacted my life. I’ve met people and have become so close to some people that have forever touched my life. Being with Xyience has allowed me to meet people who have inspired me and opened my mind to see the world in such a different, non-judgmental, clear way.

I am forever thankful for all of my opportunities, experiences and the people I have met though out my journey thus far.

AH:
Is there a secret to your success?

Amanda Corey:
I don’t really have any “secrets” however, I have found that being thankful and most importantly being humble are a contributing factor to my ongoing success and happiness. Being thankful allows me to see how lucky I am to have the opportunities I do no matter how big or small and I believe being thankful alone has opened other doors for me. Being humble is just something that comes natural to me. I have always been the “quirky” girl and I have had to overcome major devastating circumstances in my personal life that has always allowed me to stay humble. It’s kind of an odd thing to say but in a way my unfortunate and difficult times that I have gone through and still continue to struggle with, have made me who I am and I attribute these events to my ability to be so thankful.

AH:
Do you have a favorite cliché or slogan that you live by?

Amanda Corey:
Live for you and do what makes you happy. I never truly knew what this meant until I met a good friend of mine. This person truly is an inspiration and really made me think about doing things and living life for one’s self. There are always going to be certain social norms, rules, and moral values that others believe and will try and push these beliefs on others. No one can decide what makes you happy but you! No matter what the situation.

AH:
What is a typical day like for you?

Amanda Corey:
Currently, I am insanely busy. I share my time between Orange County, CA and Las Vegas. I travel to each city weekly being in Vegas three to four days a week then OC three to four days a week so I’m never in one place too long. I also travel with Xyience and I own a small business with my best friend, so when I am not physically on a photo shoot or doing an interview I am on my computer working on our business. I’m also finding that finding time to get to the gym is quite a struggle. I’m happy to be so busy however I am looking forward to fall when I slow down a bit and I can enjoy my time with my husband and best friends.

AH:
Tell fans two things about yourself that they do not know.

Amanda Corey:
1. I am conversational in American Sign Language. It was my second language in college and I often find myself signing to deaf people that I meet at events which is so awesome.

2. I have a phobia on Spiders and bugs crawling in my ear. When I was young a bug actually crawled in my dad’s ear in the middle of the night. Needless to say I’ve been a little traumatized ever since.
