Improve your health by determining if you have food allergies and food intolerances. Increase health, digestion and immune function by developing individual nutrition strategies that eliminate allergic foods and combat food intolerances.

Food Allergies: Food allergies, also known as food sensitivities, occur when the immune system reacts to a food or part of a food. The immune system views the food particle as a foreign invader and immediately attacks it. The food particle that is seen as an invader is called the allergen.

Food allergies exist in various levels of intensity. Severe food allergies can elicit fatal or near-fatal consequences. These foods should be completely eliminated from the person’s diet. If a severe food allergy exists, the appropriate measures should be in place in case of accidental ingestion.

Less intense food allergies may not require emergency treatment but they must be identified and dealt with properly. Symptoms of food allergies include but are not limited to skin rashes, fatigue, joint pain, headaches and increased inflammation levels.

Continual ingestion of an allergic food leads to whole body, or systemic, inflammation. Systemic inflammation is a precursor to the development of chronic disease.

Food Intolerance: Food intolerance, also known as non-allergenic food hypersensitivity, occurs when the digestive system is unable to process an ingested food. The body is not able to breakdown, digest or absorb the food particle.

Symptoms of food intolerance may include gas, bloating, diarrhea and abdominal pain.

Food allergies and food intolerances can be to food, specific parts of a food or a chemical additive.

Dietary Journal: Identify food allergies and food intolerance by maintaining a detailed dietary journal. Record the foods you eat, the time, the amounts, how they were prepared, the added spices or seasonings and how you felt afterward. Review your notes to find the source of food related symptoms.

Elimination Self-Testing Strategies: Completely eliminate any foods that you suspect are causing allergic reactions. After one month re-introduce the food by consuming a small amount.

Pay close attention to your body’s reaction. If there is a reaction, completely eliminate that food from your nutritional strategies. If there is no reaction, consume a larger quantity of that particular food the following day.

Again, pay close attention to your body’s reaction. If symptoms occur then completely eliminate that specific food. If no reaction occurs then slowly re-introduce the food into your nutritional plan. Pay close attention to your body and continue to maintain the detailed dietary journal.

Digestive Enzymes: Utilize digestive enzymes to combat food intolerance. Determine food intolerances by reviewing your dietary journal and ingest the appropriate enzymes before eating. Digestive enzymes will assist the digestive system in the breakdown and digestion of the foods.

Conclusion: Counteract food allergies and food intolerance with intelligent individualized nutritional strategies. Use a detailed dietary journal to identify food allergies and food intolerances. Implement an elimination self-testing plan to confirm food allergies. Develop nutritional strategies that eliminate foods that elicit allergic reactions. Consume the necessary digestive enzymes to assist digestion and combat food intolerance.
