First the important news: The E-String Bar & Grill will host a benefit for Lady “J” Huston, longtime Las Vegas entertainer, to assist with medical and moving expenses on Nov. 12. Lady “J” has been dealing with one of the biggest health setbacks of her life. Due to being hospitalized twice, and in a rehabilitation center, it has made the other illnesses she lives with, primarily Lupus, extremely difficult to handle. On advice from her doctors to seek higher level research medical care outside of Las Vegas, Lady J has decided to move back to her hometown of St. Louis. She will have the support of family there who will be able to help assist her as she strives for recovery.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Lady “J” for more than 14 years and I will miss her. I totally understand her difficult decision to move, especially to a region with very cold winters, and I support her in any way I can.
I was a radio personality at the time I met her and she has supported and helped me throughout the years. She has appeared at many fundraisers (including my organizations where I served as a board director) entertaining the crowds, donating her expertise and, most importantly, she has been a good friend.
As a supporter as well as a sponsor, I urge anyone who loves music including blues, jazz, pop, R&B, soul and standards to come out on Tuesday, Nov. 12. Admission is a donation and is tax deductible with receipts issued by Colors of Lupus Nevada.
Colors of Lupus Nevada is the first organization of its kind in Nevada devoted to improving the quality of life for Lupus sufferers, and to raising awareness of the disease among medical professionals and the general public. For more information, visit www.colorsoflupusnevada.org.
Some of the best of Las Vegas’ entertainers will be paying tribute and some scheduled included Annetta Bonner, Dr. Harpo & The O’s, Genevieve, Jazzin’ Jeanne Brei, Kevin Gardner Rose, Las Vegas ShowMan Ricco Diamente, Marc Love, Mike Vaughan Band, Mrs. Geez, Pam-E Williams, Randy Williams, Renee Hale, Rheda K, Ronnie Rose, The Cunninghams and Tommy Thompson.
Lady “J” Huston’s Fireballs will be performing including Teddy Davis, Jr. (Bass), Glenn “Hambone” Hamann (Guitar), Detroit Mike Hepner (Keyboards), Willie “Fish” Fisher (Drums), Steve Scheck (Trombone) and Greg Browne (Saxophones).
Special Guest from St. Louis includes Mama Loyce Huston and the Emcee for the evening will be Wallace Broadnax of Royal Caribbean Cruiseline.
AJ’s Music owner, Peter Trauth, will auction a brand new Fender Stratocaster Guitar. There will also be a Chinese raffle and CDs available. Again, I will repeat that all donations are tax deductible and the Colors of Lupus Nevada organization will provide the receipt.
Lady “J” Huston & The Fireballs and manager, “Z” Lipsky will be inducted into the Entertainment Consumer’s Exchange Entertainment Hall of Fame the night of the event.
Lady “J” is currently featured in the November 2013 issue of Black Image Magazine speaking on her journey with Lupus. On the cover is renowned actress Tichina Arnold of “Everybody Loves Chris,” and “Martin” on her We Win Foundation in honor of her sister who has Lupus.
Here’s the link to the ABC World News Tonight with Diane Sawyer segment that Lady J appeared on March 28 speaking on living with Lupus, medical bills and being an entertainer.
Sponsors include AJ’s Music & Vintage Guitars, E-String Bar & Grill, Jazzy Designs, Be Seen Get Heard Promotions, Las Vegas Blues Society, Entertainment Consumer’s Exchange, Informer Media Group and the Colors of Lupus Nevada.
The event will be held at E-String Bar & Grill, 2031 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, NV 89014 on Tuesday, November 12 from 5 to 9 p.m. For more information, call 702-437-8764. More information and online donations can be made via Paypal on Lady J’s website, www.msjoyce.com.
