Dr. Donald A. Ozello, DC, recently released his new book, “Running: Maximize Performance & Minimize Injuries.”  The book, as the name implies, it an in depth look at how to get the most from running, including how to prevent athletic injuries.

According to Dr. Ozello, he wrote the book for several reasons.

“First and foremost I wanted to help runners maximize their results by staying injury free and speeding recovery time from injuries.

“As a Doctor of Chiropractic I’ve treated a large number of running injuries that were preventable. I’ve learned firsthand as the doctor and as the patient how debilitating and frustrating athletic injuries can be, especially when the injuries are caused by poor training practices and could have been prevented.

“I firmly believe knowledge is power. I constantly attempt to educate my patients and readers with numerous tools to prevent common running injuries and how to better manage these injuries.

“I wanted athletes of all levels and sports to learn and practice sound training principles that yield optimum results while simultaneously decrease the potential for injuries.

“I aspired to enhance the lives of all runners. My mission in writing ‘Running: Maximize Performance & Minimize Injuries’ was to heighten the ability of runners to prevent and better manage common running injuries.”

To write the book, Dr. Ozello drew upon his experience as a chiropractor and his love of exercise.

“In my years of running I have sustained several injuries due to improper training practices,” Dr. Ozello elaborated. “I combined the knowledge I learned from my personal research for my individual injuries, with my formal education and my years of clinical experience treating athletes to provide runners a book which contains a plethora of useful and practical information.”

There are a few common mistakes people make when running, and each of these found their way into the book.

“Several simple to fix mistakes are common. These include overtraining, inadequate rest between training sessions, insufficient warm-up, lack of muscle flexibility, strength imbalances and limited cross training. Individually or in combination these factors can lead to painful and performance limiting conditions.

“’Running: Maximize Performance & Minimize Injuries’ explains why and how these factors lead to injury. It also provides basic and advanced solutions to eliminate these factors and lessen the damaging effects of common training mistakes.”

Dr. Ozello is planning more books in the future.  The topics of his next project are the fundamentals of health.

“I like to call these fundamentals, The Pillars of Health: Movement, nutrition, rest & recovery, sunshine, ergonomics, decreasing exposure to toxins, Chiropractic care and attitude,” Dr. Ozello stated. “The book will be broken done into sections for each pillar. Every section will describe why the pillar is important and contain general and specific strategies to increase health. I intend on publishing it in 2014.”

“Running: Maximize Performance & Minimize Injuries” is available in paperback and Kindle on Amazon.com. Paperback versions can also be found at Dr. Ozello’s office (Championship Chiropractic) and the publisher’s website (CreateSpace.com).
