Mat Franco, the only magician to ever win America’s Got Talent, opened his new show, Mat Franco – Magic Reinvented Nightly, at The LINQ Hotel & Casino.

In a city that has seen numerous magic shows throughout the years, Franco’s brand of magic is both fresh and personal. Franco forgoes the usual large-scale illusion – i.e. death traps – in order to tell a personal tale about his life and what magic means to him.

Franco’s show features stories and videos of his first attempts at magic when he was young. This, along with tales of his family, add a personal depth not seen in other magic shows.

He brings energy and excitement to the show, whether he is performing a card trick or telling a story. The audience becomes immersed in his life and his magic throughout the show. The interaction with the audience is consistent and personable.

Franco in the first magician I have seen that seems to delight in the fact that what we are seeing isn’t exactly magic. It is instead sleight-of-hand and trickery. But why would we want to figure out how it is done, that might ruin the surprise? Or would it? That is an interesting topic the show explores.

The magic itself is a fun experience. The action often ends up out in the audience. Add to that Franco’s personality, and I found myself more than drawn into Franco’s entertaining and magical world. I found myself feeling invested, as if it were my world too.

The LINQ Theatre is  a great home for this type of show. There isn’t a bad seat in the house. Plus, a video screen is used to augment some of Franco’s tricks that require close up viewing.

Does Las Vegas need another magic show? In the case of Mat Franco – Magic Reinvented Nightly, the answer is yes.
