Las Vegas Legends Gearing up for MASL Playoffs

The Southwest Division Champion Las Vegas Legends are gearing up for their first playoff match up of the season against the Brownsville Barracudas out of Texas this week. The playoff matchup will be a two game set beginning in Brownsville for game one and then back to Champions Arena for game two at the Las Vegas Sports Park this coming Monday at 7:35pm.

The Legends had a stellar season this year finishing the regular season with a record of 14-6 earning a first round bye in the MASL playoffs for the Ron Newman Cup.

The Legends were led this season in points by Eric Guzman with 40 total. (17 goals, 23 assists) Felipe Gonzalez, who is the Legends all time goal scoring leader added 17 goals as well along with 10 assists for a total of 27 points. Cesar Cerda, who took over for departed midfielder Ricardinho who signed with Detroit at the end of last season, came in a second in points with 31. (14 goals, 17 assists)

Starting goalie Zeke Sanchez had an early injury that kept him out the entire season, but a shining star in Hector “the octopus” Casillas came out of nowhere to lead the Legends to many victories and even is in the top rankings of goals against average in the MASL. Manny Kaji and Hector Casillas more than filled the void of Zeke Sanchez’s season ending injury.

The Legends had three matchups against this Brownsville team this season losing the first in Texas, however winning the last two consecutively on back to back nights to end the regular season heading into the playoffs.

Brownsville was able to take down Baja in the first round of the MASL playoffs setting up this rematch for the right to play the winners of the Sonora versus San Diego series.

No matter what happens in the playoffs this season, the Las Vegas Legends showed they are one of the best teams in the MASL and have the talent to be on top for years to come.

Tickets for the game versus Brownsville on Monday can be purchased before gametime at the door or at the Las Vegas Sports Park.

See you Monday at Champions Arena!
