By Ashley Glenn, Informer Media Group

For four years now, Otakon Vegas has been bringing local fans together to help celebrate their love of Asian culture. This year was their third year of entertaining fans at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino, bringing not only a fandom experience, but the Las Vegas experience itself as they hosted right on the Las Vegas Strip.

For three days, Jan. 13-15, fans gathered to show off cosplays, enjoy various panels and met popular voice actors and other special guests. From sumo wrestling matches performed by professional sumo wrestlers to K-Pop dance battles from groups all over the country, Otakon brought upon exciting entertainment that catered to a variety of fan bases.

Special guests included voice actors Colleen Clinkenbeard, Lauren Landa and Erica Mendez, director and screenwriter Yasuhiro Imagawa, vocalist Hiroshi Kitadani and sumo wrestlers Byambajav Ulambayar and Ryuichi Yamamoto. The panels conducted with these special guests were not only entertaining, but also extremely interactive with convention goers.

Other panels that were made by fans for fans celebrated various aspects of Asian culture and fandoms. This included K-pop dance battle where several dance groups fought against each other by recreating their favorite dances from popular K-pop songs as well as a masquerade where fans got to show off compete against one another with skits in their hand-made cosplays. Other activities were just as exciting and revolved around a true fan experience.

Not only did Otakon Vegas have interesting panels and enthusiastic hosts, but it also had vendors filling more than two different rooms. The Artist Alley celebrated and supported local and foreign artists who could sell their products to fellow fans and excited shoppers while the Dealers Room brought on special vendors who sold anything from steampunk items to collectable figures to legitimate swords.
