The 26th Anime Expo explodes on the scene

by Liz Tarnof

Anime Expo (AX), produced by The Society for the Promotion of Japanese Animation (SPJA), presented its 26th event this past weekend at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

This year AX added its first Pre-Show Night which had 8,068 unique attendance. The event overall had 107,658 attendees, making this the most attended Anime Expo yet. AX did not disappoint, featuring many unique exhibitors and special guests. Some highlights were the return of Anisong World Matsuri, Neon District, AX’s inaugural EDM concert, world premiers of much popular anime’s such as Cardcaptor Sakura, Digimon and more.

One of our favorite events was watching professional body painter KayPike aka KayPikeFashion. She painted herself into many well-known Dragon Ball Z characters and took the time to answer questions and meet her fans. Not only was her work stunning, but she also has the patience of a saint.

Anime Expo will be back next year during July 5-8 with the pre-show on the 4th. Tickets will be available on its website.
