Smacktalk Sports, the hit sports talk radio show on am720 KDWN, hosted their Knight Golf for the Folded Flag Foundation at Angel Park’s Cloud 9 golf course on August 18. The event raised over $1,800 for the Folded Flag Foundation, a charitable organization that gives back to the families of the brave men and women who have lost their lives via hostile action the United States Armed Forces.

The event featured nine holes of lighted nighttime golf and three dark “glow” holes featuring glow balls, glow sticks and a glow tape. Golfers could learn about different sponsors at each hole.

The glow holes added extra challenged to the golfers in attendance as the golf took place almost completely in the dark.

“The glow holes were something special, something you do not see every day,” said Joe Buda, chief operating officer – Smacktalk Sports. “We were privileged to have D&R House of Diamonds sponsor that section of the golf course.”

“All of the sponsors we had in attendance each added something special to the event,” added Buda. “They provided giveaways, chances to win prizes and the opportunity to learn more about some of the quality businesses we have here in Las Vegas.”

One of the holes featured a change to win a brand new Toyota Camry provided courtesy of Findlay Toyota. All the golfers needed to do as hit a hole-in-one. Even though nobody won the car, it added a level of excitement to the event.

“The Toyota Camry was a great addition,” said Buda. “There is nothing quite like the sight of a car on a golf course.”

The exciting prizes were given out at the Folded Flag Foundation Island Hole. Prizes given out at the closest-to-the-pin contest included Vegas Golden Knights game tickets (first place), a Marc-Andre’ Fleury signed hockey stick (second place) and a Vegas Golden Knights t-shirt and hat (third place).

One of the more popular holes, if not the most popular with golfers, was the Carl’s Donuts hole. At that hole dozens of donuts were given out to the golfers in attendance by Amber Ramsay, chief operating officer – Carl’s Donuts, and Pro BMX bike rider Ricardo Laguna.

Another hole that proved popular with the golfers was sponsored by Pigtails and Pompadours. Alcohol shots were given away at their hole, located immediately after the D&R House of Diamonds glow holes. After the challenge of golfing in the dark, some golfers really needed a drink.

Thirsty golfers were also able to purchase alcohol on the course from the Uniform Sports sponsored beverage cart.

“We were excited to work with Uniform Sports at our event,” said Buda. “They sponsored our beverage cart, enabling golfers to quench their thirst on the course. They also came through big time by providing some of the tee shirts we used for giveaways at both the Island Hole and in the mystery box raffles.”

Golfers had a chance to learn about several other businesses as well. Vegas IT Consulting, Glassy Business Window Tinting and MacDonald Ranch Dentistry were on hand to provide information to those in attendance.

People wanting to sell or buy a house house could get more information from realtor Oscar Castaneda or Brandon Luke, both of whom are military veterans.

A reception sponsored by Paul Padda Law was held during the event for golfers and non-golfers alike. The reception featured an acoustic band on the patio, chances to win once-in-a-lifetime prizes, and the ending ceremony which where Smacktalk Sports provided the final donation to the Folded Flag Foundation.

It was there that the hosts of Smacktalk Sports – Shawn Adams, Tony Gaglione and Joe Buda gave the Folded Flag Donation a check for $1,810.

The grand prizes for the raffle were once-in-a-lifetime hockey experiences – a one-on-one meet-and-greet with the Vegas Golden Knights hockey team at their practice facility. The lucky hockey fan who won one of these is able to watch a practice at the City National Arena, the Knights’ practice facility located in Downtown Summerlin. After the practice the players will be available on ice for a personal meet-and-greet.

Other prizes included hockey signed hockey memorability, select bottles of alcohol and tee shirts.

“Our event was amazing,” said Buda. “We couldn’t have done it without all of the support we received from each of our sponsors to create a memorable experience. We also could not have done it without all of the help from the Folded Flag Foundation and the Vegas Golden Knights.”
