The 11th annual World Tea Expo, based in Las Vegas, is the leading trade show focused 100 percent on teas and related products. The expo with conferences was created as a way for more than the estimated 4,000 attendees from around the globe to network, gather fresh ideas, and experience new trends along with buying, selling, and education. The Healthy Beverage Expo, a brand new trade show, was held in combination of the World Tea Expo that’s dedicated to supporting the healthy drink segment of the beverage market.

“Tea is undoubtedly on an upswing in North America,” says George Jage, founder and director of World Tea Expo, “and there are a lot of factors driving the growth of tea, such as: consumer shifts by our largest two demographics groups; a national war on soda; increased availability of premium product in the market; exciting new tea products; consumer cynicism of large conglomerates; the slow food movement; celebrity endorsement and involvement; national media attention; and continued research on the health benefits of tea. But what drives consumption is taste, and tea has enormous depth and range that other beverages simply can’t compete with.”

Highlights of 2013 World Tea Expo include: the 2013 World Tea Expo Best New Product Awards; the North American Tea Championship Winners Tasting Circle; the Wu-Wo Tea Ceremony; the New Business Boot Camp; a World Origin Tasting Tour; Core Conference Seminars; Executive & Technical Content; as well as Focused Tastings and hands-on Skill Building Workshops.

Below are video interviews with some of the participants of the World Tea Expo and Healthy Beverage Expo 2013.

Written by John on behalf of Leibish & Co.

Even when motion pictures and television were viewed in black and white, we always pictured celebrities in color. Once pictures were televised in color, it only reinforced the fact in our minds that celebrities really did sparkle more than us run of the mill individuals – the fairy dust with which they were sprinkled came in color.

As celebs really have become a part of our lives, knowingly or unwittingly, sharing their most intimate moments with us, they have just about become part of our everyday existence. And now with the Internet, social media, and mobile technologies that ensure we are always “connected,” we can live vicariously all the time. One thing is for sure – what goes on in Tinseltown definitely does not stay in Tinseltown.

Follow the Celeb

We have always aspired to be like celebs and live like them. Yet even if we can’t all perform on the stage the silver screen, or have hour image relayed into millions of homes, that doesn’t mean that we can’t still follow and recreate the look of those we admire.

Whether it be from a popular movie, a celebrity sighting, or a red carpet event for time immemorial we have been copying and adapting trends from the trendsetters – hairstyles, clothing, accessories, and with the popularity of cosmetic surgery anything can be achieved – you name it, we’ll take it to heart. However, there has been a new celebrity trend evolving over the last few years that only seems to be gathering momentum – accessorizing with natural fancy color diamonds.

The Queen of Diamonds

Natural fancy color diamonds are the most sought after and pricey of diamonds. Ten thousand times rarer than colorless diamonds, they remain unknown to many people due to their rarity but that is all changing. And although the most coveted of these diamonds can cost up to $2 million per carat, that doesn’t mean that you cannot afford one for yourself.

When the Stars Come Out to Play

J-Lo may have come a long way since she was Jenny from the block and so have her tastes. Her beaus may change but her love of colored diamonds seemingly does not. Ben Affleck may have wooed Jen with a 6.1 carat, radiant pink diamond ring Harry Winston pink diamond worth a cool $1.2 million (which she promptly returned after breaking off the engagement – seemingly she always was a class act), and Marc Anthony with a 14 carat solitaire blue diamond ring worth over 4 million. So guys, consider yourself warned, you better have not only deep pockets but also a love of fancy color diamonds if you want to woo this mega star.

They don’t come much more A-list than Beyoncé and Jay-Z. And what would be more appropriate as a gift for a child named Blue Ivy than a 12.38 carat blue diamond ring? With the cash to splash and the bling to sing why not indulge your every fantasy?

However, the red carpet is not only inhabited by people with bodacious curves, perfect teeth, and a God-given gift to entertain, there are also those who manage to make the grade due to being born of the right parentage – if you want to look at it that way.

Take Kelly Osbourne. She may not be able to sing like J-Lo or move like Beyoncé , heck, she may not even be your taste but she is different and she is Ozzy Osbourne’s daughter, and that in and of itself is enough to give you plenty of cred. Kelly wowed everyone recently at the Emmy Awards when she lit up the red carpet with a $250,000 manicure comprised of 267 carats of black diamonds.

Not all Kellys are a little not conformist though. Kelly Clarkson, the inaugural winner of American Idol and a celeb who is much more in keeping with the norms of society yet that doesn’t mean that she hasn’t been bitten by the colored diamond trend – guess it beats being bitten by a bat…or biting one yourself.

Kelly’s yellow diamond engagement ring, worth about $150,000 recently went missing for a short period at the CMA Music Festival in Nashville. Luckily it was found and Kelly lives to sing another day.

For Mere Mortals

Not all fancy color diamonds cost millions or even hundreds of thousands of dollars. Different colors and different examples can be had for reasonable prices that even mere mortals can afford.

It’s not only the singers who have a thing for colored diamonds. Actress, Kate Hudson received a $200,000, nine carat emerald cut blue diamond engagement ring from Matthew Bellamy. And it seems as though, at least for Kate, second time’s a charm.

By Sean Molloy

What an incredible week to be a gamer. Microsoft delivered exactly what they promised; games, games and more games. Sony unveiled their new monster of a console, the Playstation 4. And Nintendo, well, wait was Nintendo even there? Ok yeah, they were and announced an upcoming slate of software. But who really “won” the show this year? In an online poll, 81 percent of fans think Sony won by announcing that unlike the Xbox One, their machine would play used games, not require an internet connection and most importantly…make gamers everywhere their number one priority. I have to agree, the Playstation 4 is the superior machine in my opinion having hands on time with both new consoles. I’m excited for more players to wrap their hands around the new controller and have an experience.

As for the games, I was on the show floor and got to play a ton. Therefore I’ve compiled a list of the best I saw with what I’m simply calling my E3 awards. Broken down by category, here is my best of the best of E3 2013.

Best Action Game

Infamous: Second Son

The third entry in Sucker Punch’s franchise is a sight to behold. I can’t remember any kind of game looking this good. With a new protagonist and setting, Second Son is taking fresh new approaches to its super hero storytelling. Delsin Rowe now uses fantastic fire and smoke based attacks to rampage through future Seattle.

Best Adventure Game

The Walking Dead: 400 Days

Telltale’s new title bridges the gap between last years The Walking Dead and the next iteration of the zombie apocalypse. Everything we loved from the first game is here in full force, the moral choices that make our stomach turn, the simple puzzle mechanics and the point/click format. 5 different characters will each have their own chapter with the final being the culmination of all before.

Best Multiplayer Game

Tom Clancy’s The Division

Ubisoft is starting up what is sure to be another phenomenal franchise with The Division. Occurring after a near future financial collapse in New York, players are thrust into a world where they must work together online to survive. In the demo, three players worked together to overtake a police station. All happening online with no players on the same system. At one point, a drone entered the battle being controlled by a tablet. Ubisoft is going all out with this one; I can’t wait to get my hands on it some more.

Best Platformer

Knack

Playstation 4’s exclusive title, Knack, is as cute as it is full of solid gameplay. I was able to have over a half hour of playtime with Knack and I refer to it as a Ratchet and Clank meets Toy Story kind of game. The story revolves around a creature that can shrink or grow at the push of a button. Mechanics are solid all the way around and with a few months more polishing time, Knack could really be something special.

Best Racing Game

Driveclub

Evolution studios is making the racing game they’ve always wanted to make. Take their word for it. The idea is simple; make a game where drivers from all around the world can join teams and race against everyone else. If there’s no team to race, no problem, Driveclub gives the ability to create your own challenges for you to dare your friends to beat. The seamless integration is a marvel; please take my $60 now.

Best Role-Playing Game

South Park: The Stick of Truth

Written by Matt Stone and Trey Parker themselves, the game feels as authentic as you can imagine. It really does make you feel as if you’ve been a part of the small Colorado town forever. Players take control of the new kid in the neighborhood and in true RPG fashion, embark on an epic quest. Every character you’d want in a South Park game is here, from Randy Marsh to Mr. Hankey. Count me in.

Best Shooter

Battlefield 4

DICE’s go to franchise for anything with a gun returns in the next generation of consoles. And boy, does it look sexy. At one point in the campaign, I was charging across the deck of an aircraft carrier when suddenly a hail of bullet fire pinned me down. No worries, I simply took aim at a nearby tethered down F-18 and sent it careening down towards my enemies. I don’t care if the shooter isn’t realistic; its heart pumping and adrenaline filled, that’s what I want.

Best Sports Game

N/A-I just didn’t get my hands on any during the show, but by trailers and gameplay footage I watched. FIFA 14 and Madden 25 are looking great running their new Ignite engine on next-gen consoles.

Best Downloadable Game

I couldn’t narrow this category to one game, during my playtime in the Sony booth; I got hands on time with Transistor and Octodad. Both coming to the Playstation 4 via the PSN (Playstation Network). Equally charming and innovative, both titles impressed me greatly.

Best Multiplatform Game

Destiny

Bungie’s first game as a post Halo studio. I’ll keep this short and sweet because I could blab for a while. Destiny is completely bonkers good. From the visuals, to the player integration to the online components. The team has struck gold with. It’s the one game of the show that had me thinking about it days after. I already have a clan ready to go, Tim, I’m looking at you. Early 2014 needs to get here ASAP.

Best 3DS Exclusive

The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Being set in the same world as 1992’s A Link to the Past is what fans have been wanting for years. They finally get their game. Brand new dungeons to scavenge and tricks with the 3D camera have this title looking promising.

Best Vita Exclusive

Killzone: Mercenary

This is a full-fledged Killzone game….on a handheld. It works, it feels great and with graphical quality to current gen consoles there’s no way Vita owners should pass this one up. The game even has its own multiplayer system that is going to tie in with the Playstation 4’s “Killzone: Shadow Fall”

Best Wii U Exclusive

Super Mario 3D World

Nintendo has pumped up the cast for Mario’s next big adventure. In the spirit of Mario 64, the game will have players exploring different worlds in order to find Princess Peach; ok don’t quote me on that because I don’t really understand what Nintendo is doing as a company anymore. Rehashing old mediums and calling them new games is not innovation.

Best Playstation 4 Exclusive

Infamous: Second Son

In case my first snippet talking about Second Son wasn’t enough, this game just effing rocks. Buy a PS4 and buy this game when both come out towards the end of this year. You WILL NOT be disappointed. I guarantee it.

Best Xbox One Exclusive

Titanfall

From the minds of Call of Duty 4 comes Titanfall. The game blurs the lines between multiplayer deathmatch and single player story. What did show goers see? Well gigantic mechs that players can call down from the heavens at any time to deal massive damage to other players lucky enough to come across you. Shooter fans will rejoice at this title, it seems like a guaranteed seller.

Best in Show

Destiny

If you know me, you know how much I didn’t like the Halo franchise; it felt like the same exact game 6 times over. Yet Bungie has pushed their employees to make something new and innovative. My excitement is through the roof for this game. Anything I could say here just wouldn’t do it justice.

Best Surprises

During every E3 there are certain things fans don’t see coming, here are some of my favorites.

Mirror’s Edge 2!!

Star Wars Battlefront by DICE

Oculus Rift Virtual Reality

$399 Price tag for Playstation 4

Xbox One’s strong game lineup (they’ll need it)

Who’s Buying What?

Over the course of the last few days I’ve been conducting a private poll over facebook, twitter and instagram to ask which system is that consumer going to buy. The majority of gamers are on board with the Playstation 4 at an almost 3:1 ratio over Microsoft’s console, citing the price tag and the focus on game development being core reasons on spending money. The Xbox One was given some love too; most people said that their loyalty to Xbox was because of their Live service and a pre-existing friends list. However I have to mention that I have never seen so many gamers jumping ship off of one console to another than right now. The systems have yet to launch and Microsoft really should be scared.

Special thanks to everyone who answered my poll questions during the last few days.

Merion Golf Club is your 113th U.S. Open champion, but England’s Justin Rose procured the trophy in the end.

Rose’s winning score of +1 meant that all the conversation leading up to the tournament about the golf course playing easy was voided and found unmistakably false. Frank Nobilo from the Golf Channel, along with others, thought for sure that the scoring record of 63 set by Johnny Miller in 1973 would fall and fall quick. Instead, the lowest score shot all week was 67 by a handful of players, and the only record that was of significance was Billy Horschel’s fantastic second round in which he hit all 18 greens in regulation.

Justin Rose on paper is one of the best, if not the best player on tour in every meaningful category other than putting. He ranked tied-for-first in birdies made with 15, ninth in GIR %, and fourth in fairways hit; a recipe for winning U.S. Open no doubt (not to mention one of the best golf swings seen in the past decade).

His win also broke two major trends in the world of golf, players from England not winning a major and players to win without a long putter.

File photo of Justin Rose; Photo credit Pvt Pauline

Rose became the first player from England to win a major since Nick Faldo won the 1996 Masters tournament. While not every player to win the past half-decade of majors has used a long/anchored putter, the trend has worried purists in the game, especially after Adam Scott’s win at this year’s Masters Tournament. Ironically it wasn’t Rose’s putter that ended up winning him the U.S. Open, it was his fairway wood from the back fringe used as a pseudo-putter that left him a tap in for his first major victory.

As a 2 handicap golfer myself, I know that it is possible to play your best golf after a layoff, or playing a course for the first time, and that certainly rang true for Phil Mickelson (who had done some minor course work a week before) last week at Merion. Stymied by a deluge of rain in Ardmore, Pennsylvania, Mickelson flew home last Tuesday to Carlsbad, California in order to see his daughter’s eighth grade graduation this past Wednesday. He then took his private jet Wednesday night from California and arrived in Pennsylvania around 5:30 a.m., less than two hours before his 7:11 a.m. tee time. He then went on to be at, or right next to the lead after each round. However, Phil Mickelson continues to be America’s Greg Norman, only with less upsets and more choking faux-dramatics. Phil consistently missed those four-footers he is so infamous for missing, and double-bogeyed two holes on the front night in the final round. “Let’s go Phil! Let’s go Phil!” gave voice to his final pitch attempt on 18, one that he had to make to tie Rose. Unfortunately, Phil’s birthday present only amounted to a $696,104 check for finishing tied-for-second with Jason Day (who has a ton of game, by the way).

Tiger Woods finished in a tie for 32nd at +13, and continues his drought of major championships since 2008.

Rory McIlroy finished one worse at +14 in a tie for 41st, but did have the quote of the week when talking about the “easiness” Merion Golf Club, “I didn’t hear any of the golfers saying that. It was you guys [media] saying it was going to be scoreable. So you must be very good golfers.”

I’m a student, a golfer and a writer, but I’m still figuring out what order those should apply to me. I provide a unique prospective from my survival and escape as a liberal in the state of Kansas. You could call me a sports junkie, but only when it comes to the Jayhawks, Royals, Chiefs or Thunder. Overall I’m outspoken, but conservative with my letter bombs. I’m chasing the American dream… at least what it use to be.

The world has turned and left me here.

Irfan Masih, 20, a resident of Sharikpur, District Sheikhpura in Punjab Province was brutally murdered by the Punjab Police. According to the family Masih use to work in a local factory, he was illegally abducted by the local police, illegally detained without any charge for over 9 days, brutally tortured and mercilessly murdered.

According to the autopsy report, over 22 bones have been fractured. The authorities have failed to respond to this ruthless and barbaric act of the local police.

The family has been visiting the local authorities, but no one had the time to look into the matter, the SHO ( Station House officer) Riaz u Din Gujjar said that they had arrested Masih in suspicion to a murder, but he couldnt bare the torture and died. SHO Riaz ud Din Gujjar, Sub inspector Shahbaz, ASI (Assistant sub-inspector) Variam Ali and other officers have go regret what so ever on their shameful act. Infact Gujjar said, “So what if he died, many people die daily”.

These are the words of a senior officer of the Punjab Police, who`s responsibility is to protect the citizens and maintain law and order, not to abuse the law and use it as they want, they didn`t have any warrants nor he was produced in the court to seek remand. They have clearly mocked the judicial system, they have sent a clear message that there is no system or justice for the weak, the powerful can bend and use the law as and when according to their will.

Human Rights Organization Life For All Pakistan has condemned the barbaric act, a protest was staged in Lahore to condemn the brutal act and violation of human rights. Life For All Pakistan has filed a writ at the Lahore High Court seeking immediate action, ordering a judicial inquiry into the matter and immediate suspension and arrest of the officers involved in the act. Masih`s family has been shifted to a secure location to ensure that they are not threatened or harmed by the culprits.

The Venetian Las Vegas and The Palazzo Las Vegas has brought Carnevale 2013 to Las Vegas for the summer. In Italy, Carnevale is a huge festival celebrated with parades, masquerade balls, entertainment, and music. By the Waterfall in The Palazzo Las Vegas, fantasy comes alive as Carnevale characters entertain all who come to Carnevale. Marionettes almost become human dancing to the joy of the summer months. Music fills the air as three pianists, violinist and singer serenade the crowds. Everyone is invited to watch the nightly parade as the evening ends with bursts of color from the Light of the Venetian Show.

He also pens the adult-themed web comic Jagged Edges (Jagged-edges.com), which has polluted the elaborate series of tubes that make up the Internet since June 2007.
Earlier this week I wrote an editorial proposing a 28th constitutional amendment to abolish war. The NSA scandal, I argue, is tied to the more pervasive problem of violent foreign (and domestic) policy, and we’ll continue to see government abuses so long as war and inter-state military violence are the acceptable choices for conflict management. David Swanson, author of the brilliant history, “When the World Outlawed War,” thoughtfully responded to my plea by urging us to recall and reignite the Kellogg-Briand Pact of 1928, an existing international pact renouncing war signed and ratified by the US president and Senate.

I agree with Mr. Swanson that any efforts to end war should point to existing law, and we agree that abolishing war is possible and necessary. However, the Kellogg-Briand Pact is not without its limitations, and a fresh, people-driven constitutional amendment could both address those limitations and offer current, culturally relevant and legally dispositive reinforcement.

Among several oversights in Kellogg-Briand, acknowledged in Mr. Swanson’s book, the Outlawry Movement ignored war-making processes. Renouncing war while neglecting to ban war-making and war-sustaining institutions only created paranoia and a subsequent arms race. An effective law, amendment, or treaty (or combination) would have to include the complete disintegration of war-preparation processes, including military recruitment, the armed forces, and weapons and ammunitions manufacturing. Otherwise, the old adage of the hammer and nail will continue to ring true.

Another limitation of Kellogg-Briand is its focus on “pacific means.” Current definitions of “pacific” include “tending to peace” and “lessening conflict,” and provide a linguistic loophole for determined warmongers—by some twisted definitions a warhead slated to slaughter two million people can keep the ‘peace’. The Bush administration, for example, proposed its War on Terror partially on the grounds of liberating the oppressed – a “pacific” intention conceived through rhetorical gyrations by elites through corporate media.

“Pacific means” are currently embraced by U.N. peacekeeping troops. “Blue Helmets” generally carry weapons and, when fired upon, may fire back, while the U.N. Security Council just unanimously authorized an unprecedented “intervention brigade” for the Democratic Republic of the Congo, seriously pushing the limits on definitions of “peacekeeping.” As such, all military violence could be considered ‘pacific’ when artfully and culturally framed. A new carefully constructed constitutional amendment would afford the opportunity to use language that bans all military violence, as well as violent conflict management means, regardless of claimed “pacific” means or intent.

Kent Shifferd, peace historian and author of “From War to Peace: A Guide to the Next Hundred Years,” proposes a redefinition of war in his call for abolition, one that includes military violence of all forms. With this I fully agree. Redefining war to include all military violence, as well as all violent conflict management matériel, will be necessary for an effective end to war. My initial crude attempt at writing a 28th Amendment includes language that tries to encompass this point. Furthermore, a new amendment would allow space for including war-making processes and institutions, necessary for preventing arms races that essentially provoke and escalate violent conflict.

Mr. Swanson says he does not want to “dispute the advantages of banning war in the highest law, the Constitution,” but also suggests that the Kellogg-Briand Pact could essentially perform the same function as a constitutional amendment in il-legalizing war. I disagree. The Constitution is foundational literature on which we base our cultural identity, the sacred text of our civil religion, and a powerful purveyor of American collective values. Adding a constitutional amendment developed and promoted by We the People in grassroots style would carry far more weight with future generations than an aging international treaty. While treaties can be tucked away on page 454 of the U.S. State Department’s website, a grassroots movement culminating in a 28th Amendment would be impossible to politically ignore and virtually impossible to circumvent. The Constitution remains intensely resonant because it is culturally ever-present.

Ultimately, we need a law that not only bans war, but bans violent conflict management – even with purported pacific means and intentions – as well as war-making processes, preparations, and institutions. If cultivated by a bottom-up, civil society movement, a 28th Amendment banning these violent human inventions would synch with and reinforce Kellogg-Briand, add the necessary weight of popular, current, culturally relevant consensus, and allow our already existing, nonviolent methods of conflict management and resolution to flourish.
